The problem of quality data to ease planning and policy formulation has remained the bane of Nigerian economy since independence. The three tiers of government require quality and timely statistics for effective planning at all levels. Given the renewed interest in expanding the policy space at the lower levels of government in Nigeria, it has become necessary to address the important issue of quality data and information gathering, including disaggregated gross domestic products at state levels as a critical source for evidence-based policy design and formulation. The gross domestic product (GDP) is one of the primary indicators used to gauge the health of a country?s economy. It represents the total value of all goods and services produced over a specific time period, quarterly or yearly. Despite the importance of the GDP to the country, its importance at the sub national level has not been recognized Development of the state capacity in GDP computation will not only go a long way in enhancing effective policy planning and implementation but will also contribute to the quality of data production by the National Bureau of Statistics. This workshop is designed to build state officers skills in GDP computation at state level.
