The strategic importance of an effective maintenance and safety culture for sustained growth in any organization cannot be overemphasized. "Prevention is better than cure". This assertion which holds true in almost any facet of human endeavour is of particular significance to any industry where very expensive, heavy and sensitive equipments are in regular use. Obviously the cost of repairs and sometimes outright replacement of damaged equipment cum skilled personnel who become physically handicapped from often avoidable industrial accidents and loss of time could be enormous. As the saying goes, "a stitch in time saves nine." The implication of this statement is that provisions for and accommodation of regular "small" but indispensable training programme of this nature usually go a long way in forestalling the costly mistake of avoidable neglect.
