Information and data from the maritime sector of our economy strongly indicate a quantum leap in the growth of imports over the years as against a poor showing for non-oil exports. Accompanying the growth is the challenge of getting the imports and exports as swiftly as possible through the ports to the shippers’ warehouses. While the government has responded to this challenge by a series of reforms, several deficiencies still exist in the area of the requisite skills for shippers in managing import and export operations efficiently. This three-day programme is designed to explore the entire value chain of the import/export operations as depicted in the illustration below, with emphasis on modalities to ameliorate these deficiencies and strengthen the capabilities of the operatives.
