Introduction to Geographic Iinformation Systems (GIS)
Target Audience: This beginner course is for those who are new to geographic information systems (GIS) and ESRI's ArcGIS Software and that wish to learn what GIS is and the basics of what it can do.
Prerequisites and recommendations: No GIS experience required. This is a beginner level class. Students should know how to use Windows-based software for basic file management and browsing. Owning a laptop computer is encouraged.
Course Goals: After successfully completing this course, you will have acquired an understanding of general GIS terms and the basic functionality of Esri's ArcGIS Desktop software. These new skills include: Explain what a GIS is and what it can do Work with and create GIS maps in ArcMap Access and query a GIS database
