In contemporary time, attention has diverted from that of merely achieving national growth and development to that of sustainable human development.  The later embodies the elements of the former as well as concerns about the problems of environmental degradation in the pursuit of development central to this are the activities of the human element. 

In practice is obvious that the challenges of slow growth in economic, social and political development cannot be far from the present inadequate gender practices.    

Gender Issues in Sustainable Development examines human element in the process of growth and development.Therefore an accelerated development of any nation will require the efficient mobilization and effective use of productive resources (human and material). 

This workshop holding in Shangisha, Lagos state is therefore, designed to address challenges of sustainable development arising from gender imbalance. 

Objectives

 At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to

  • Analyse the concept and elements of sustainable development
  • Identify gender imbalances and their implications
  • Appraise the institutional framework for women development and empowerment
  • Examine the impact of economic reforms on the vulnerable groups of which women form the highest percentage
  • Determine appropriate strategies and polices for gender balance in the development process

Methodology of Delivery

Lectures, discussions, syndicate work, case studies and role-play.  Audio visual aids will be used to reinforce the training and learning methods. 

Target Audience

The workshop is designed for Senior Managers (both male and female) in key ministries in the federal, state and local governments, Pressure groups, NGOs, and private sector.  Also expected to attend are Labour Leaders and Senior Personnel Officers of various organizations.
