The 21st Century no doubt is the millennium of information. This is as a result of high level of information explosion, which sees information growing at a geometrical rate. As a result of this, the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Libraries and Information Centres is now a common place all over the world.
An ICT- based library system offers the advantages of increased speed and accuracy of performing routine functions, thereby reducing errors. It also offers improved service, a reliable, competent and accurate manipulation of library information functions and frees human beings from much repetitive and boring work. This workshop is designed for Information Professionals, including Chartered Librarians, Archivists and Educationists, to acquaint them with the use of ICT to enable them to meet up with the current trend and challenges.
At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Use the computer and other information technology to prepare, store, view and retrieve documents; identify the features of library automation
- Use internet services
- Evaluate the basic components of the web.
