All too often, organizations find themselves stuck in a strategy that's become stale or obsolete - and they don't know how to break free from this fixedness. Enter design thinking. What began as a method for sparking product innovation is now a powerful tool for rethinking and revitalizing strategy. By placing customers' needs at the center of a product, service, process, and business model, design thinking can help leaders reframe key strategic challenges facing their organizations and fundamentally change how they think about strategy.

 Emphasizing right-brained creativity and left-brained analytics, this approach enables leaders to envision their strategy in a new light, find novel opportunities for innovation, and gain inspiration.

What You Can Expect

Offering a blend of case studies, group discussions, and hands-on exercises, this design-thinking course balances group-based exercises with project-based work so you can develop a broad understanding of design thinking, gain experience with its application, and leverage the knowledge of those leading and participating in the program.

you keep in mind a strategic project for your organization, you will have the opportunity to seek input from CPSPD faculty and program participants concerning your presumed business challenge. This  process  often helps clarify the root cause of a strategic issue and consequently leads to a more effective solution. Three to four months after the program ends, you will participate in a virtual follow on to discuss the implementation of your strategic project with faculty and executives from the program.

You will emerge from this experience with the ability to:

  • Create design-thinking practices core to your strategic approach
  • Consider the needs of end users in every strategic decision
  • Move quickly to develop innovative solutions
  • Tolerate risk and failure in order to boost creative thinking

Your Course of Study

Reimagining Strategy helps senior executives view strategy through a new lens and employ design thinking to innovate and elevate strategic thinking. It's designed to equip senior leaders with a sophisticated knowledge of design thinking and help them "unstick" a strategy that's become stagnant.

The format and content of the program's curriculum will help you to:

  • Understand creative thinking and use design principles to improve your company's competitive advantage
  • Build empathy with end users by observing their behaviour and drawing conclusions based on qualitative information
  • Apply design thinking to business model innovation and ensure that business decisions are driven by the user
  • Practice systematic inventive thinking (SIT) to overcome functional and relational immobility
  • Create models and deploy rapid prototyping to explore complex problems
  • Approach failure as a gateway to learning
  • Foster a culture of creative critique and openness to change

Post-Program: Virtual Follow On

You may choose to participate in a virtual gathering with faculty members and program participants approximately three to four months after the conclusion of the program. During this gathering, you and your peers will have the opportunity to discuss the status of your strategic projects, as well as consider any implementation challenges you've encountered, and reflect on the processes you've utilized.

Who Is Right for the Program

This design thinking program is designed for leaders in top management roles. Representative titles include but are not limited to:

  • President/Managing Director
  • Chief executive officer
  • Chief operating officer
  • Chief financial officer
  • Head of a business unit, division, function, or region
  • Reimagining Strategy is well suited for individual leaders as well as executive teams. Each team should consist of a C-level executive in addition to other senior executives from the organization.

Admissions

Because a diverse participant mix is an important part of every CPSPD Executive Education program, we look for candidates who reflect a broad range of industries, functions, countries, and backgrounds to enrich the learning experience.

NOTE

No payment is necessary until you have been accepted into  CPSPD Executive Education program. After admission notification, we will send you an invoice via email; payment is due within 30 days of the invoice date. If admission is within 30 days prior to the start of the program, payment is due upon receipt of the invoice. Payment is required prior to the program start date. We accept payment by company cheque, bank wire transfer, or credit card (Visa, MasterCard). Details are included on the program invoice.

If you need to cancel or defer participation, you must submit your request in writing more than 30 days before the start of the program to receive a full refund. Due to program demand and the volume of preprogram preparation, cancellations or deferrals received 14 to 30 days prior to the start of the program are subject to a fee of one-half of the program fee. Requests received within 14 days are subject to full payment.

Requirements

Although there are no formal educational requirements, admission is a selective process based on professional achievement and organizational responsibility. We look for professionals who have demonstrated business talent and leadership potential.

CPSPD Executive Education programs enrich both participants and their organizations, and require full commitment from each party.

Language Proficiency

We deliberately design our programs to encourage individual growth and to foster productive interaction among participants. For that reason, proficiency in written and spoken English is essential.
