Legislation is an important aspect of emergency prevention, preparedness and response. Participants learn about the various acts, legislations and regulations governing local, state and federal agencies. Concepts of emergency management and the models, systems, and processes required to effectively plan, mitigate, respond and recover from various disasters are explored.
In addition, Participants learn to manage disasters involving multiple jurisdictions at national and international levels. Participants gain a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the emergency manager during tragedies, natural disasters, hazardous materials, incidents and terrorist events.
This program examines the socially constructed relationship between hazards and disasters. Introduces the key stakeholders involved with emergency management, and explores the historic and contemporary principles, policies, and legal frameworks guiding the field of practice. Analyzes different paradigms for conceptualizing the practice of disaster and emergency management in Nigerian and international contexts
Program Eligibility
Applicants are required to provide proof of successful completion of a university degree or two-year College Diploma (minimum) or equivalent in a related discipline, OR related work experience in emergency management.
Applicants who have not completed a university degree or college diploma may be considered based upon relevant emergency management work experience and/or post-secondary credits achieved. These applicants will be assessed individually.

Program participants represent a spectrum of businesses and sectors, geographic regions and nationalities, and areas of expertise. The unifying theme is a broad base of employees and recognition of their critical role in emergency management.

- Officers and staff of state and national emergency management agencies
- Officers and staff of organization, state and national fire service
- Officers and staff of paramilitary agencies, Non- governmental organization involve in emergency operations
- Officers and staff of Police and Armed forces involve in emergency operations.
- Officers and staff of Organizations, Ministries, Departments, Agencies including those with audit or risk management responsibility
- Individual participants are welcome; management teams are encouraged to attend
Admissions
Because a diverse participant mix is an important part of every CPSPD Emergency Management program, we look for candidates who reflect a broad range of industries, functions, countries, and backgrounds to enrich the learning experience.
Fees, Payments, and Cancellations
The $800 program fee covers tuition, books, case materials, accommodations, and most meals. There is no application fee.
No payment is necessary until you have been accepted into CPSPD Emergency Management program. After admission notification, we will send you an invoice via email; payment is due within 30 days of the invoice date. If admission is within 30 days prior to the start of the program, payment is due upon receipt of the invoice. Payment is required prior to the program start date. We accept payment by company cheque, bank wire transfer, or credit card (Visa, MasterCard). Details are included on the program invoice.
If you need to cancel or defer participation, you must submit your request in writing more than 30 days before the start of the program to receive a full refund. Due to program demand and the volume of preprogram preparation, cancellations or deferrals received 14 to 30 days prior to the start of the program are subject to a fee of one-half of the program fee. Requests received within 14 days are subject to full payment.
Requirements
Although there are no formal educational requirements, admission is a selective process based on professional achievement and organizational responsibility. We look for professionals who have demonstrated emergency management talent and leadership potential.
CPSPD Emergency Management programs enrich both participants and their organizations, and require full commitment from each party.
Language Proficiency
We deliberately design our programs to encourage individual growth and to foster productive interaction among participants. For that reason, proficiency in written and spoken English is essential.
Application Process
CPSPD must receive your application and any other required documents in order to prepare the application for review by the Admissions Committee.
