4th Annual Conference on Energy Arbitration and Dispute Resolution in the Middle East and Africa

Now in its fourth year, the conference in 2019 will focus on a broad range of technical, economic and diplomatic factors that affect Dispute Resolution in the Middle East and Africa. The conference will again examine the impact of oil price variations and regional security issues across the continent.

The keynote speaker for this year’s conference is Mohamed S. Abdel Wahab, Founding Partner and Head of the International Arbitration, Construction, Oil and Gas and Project Finance Groups at Zulfiqar and Partners.

Also speaking will be Professor Peter Cameron, Director of Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy, Professor of International Energy Law and Policy on the “Top 10 Energy Disputes of 2018”.

The first day of the conference will be focused on the Middle East, with topics

• Third Party Funding in Middle East Dispute Resolution, Innovation and Development in Middle East
• Arbitration, Political and Economic influences on Dispute Resolution (including Sanctions) and the Impact of Policy Decisions on Energy Disputes.

The second day will have an African focus and will begin with an

•  Oxford-style debate on whether “investment arbitration inhibits the advance of the rule of law in developing countries”.

Other sessions will include topics such as

• The Role of the National Courts in African Arbitration and the African Continental Free Trade Area

Both days will be followed by a drinks reception for all participants.
