Competency Frameworks that clarify characteristics, knowledge and skills required to succeed in a job, are the bedrock for a successful HR management system and by extension, improved organizational performance. Competencies that lead to continuous improvement in quality, productivity, sales, and other economic results and to innovation in the development of new products and services, are key building blocks for efficient hiring, for developing structured and efficient learning and development systems, for guided feedback in appraisals and coaching and for situating and evaluating employees in dynamic succession plans.

This programme is designed to help HR practitioners and Line managers effectively develop, validate, and apply Competency Frameworks in their organizations. They will be introduced to Competency mapping on HR information systems / ERP systems.

Modules:

  • Introduction to Competency based HR
  • Business Case for Competency Frameworks
  • Competency Groups or Families
  • Testing, refining, and validating the Competency Framework
  • Competency Evaluation – mapping workforce on the framework
  • Aligning HR Management processes (Performance Management, Hiring, Succession Plans, Coaching, 360 degree feedback, Learning & Development).
  • Working within HR Information Systems / ERP systems.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the programme, participants should be able to:

  • Understand what Competencies are and how they were introduced
  • Understand and justify the business need
    • Understand the link between competency mapping and organization performance
    • Understand the role of competency frameworks in learning and development, selection, succession planning, coaching and feedback
  • Demonstrate an ability to develop organization-wide and functional competency frameworks with line management through proven data collection processes
  • Facilitate the evaluation of employees on the framework
  • Link the competency models to existing HR processes to ensure sustainability
    • Increase the effectiveness of training and professional development programs by focusing on closing competency gaps and raising proficiency levels
    • Provide common, organization-wide standards for specific roles and career levels
    • Support organizational activities like recruitments, training, career growth paths, and performance appraisals
    • Improve Succession Plan through careful, methodical preparation focused on retaining and growing the competency portfolios critical for the organization to survive and prosper in the long-term.
  • Embed Competency Frameworks in new or existing HR information systems / ERPs.
