COURSE OVERVIEW
This course explores the dynamics of terrorism, insurgency, and counterinsurgency operations within the African
context, with a particular focus on intelligence gathering, analysis, and application in preventing, mitigating and
responding to security threats. Through a blend of case studies, practical exercises, and theoretical frameworks, the
course provides participants with the tools to critically assess threats and develop actionable intelligence for decision
making. Participants will gain an extensive understanding of the root causes of terrorism and insurgency, the role of
intelligence in shaping security strategies and the challenges posed by evolving extremist groups, transnational
networks, and asymmetric warfare.

This course is intended for intelligence officers, military and law enforcement personnel, policymakers, security
analysts, counter terrorism practitioners and professionals working with international organizations, NGOs, and
