Welcome to Another Edition of the NST Weekly L&D Digest
Theme: Beyond Familiar Ground
As we enter the third week of October, our "From Harvest to Growth" journey explores an important aspect of professional development - moving beyond what is familiar. Experience, skills, and knowledge provide a strong foundation, but continued growth sometimes requires us to take on new responsibilities, learn different approaches, speak up, or pursue unfamiliar opportunities. Although these steps may feel uncomfortable, staying within familiar boundaries can limit our development. As we approach the final months of 2026, this is a good time to identify areas for improvement and consider the next steps towards our professional goals.
Our professional harvest becomes more valuable when we use it to prepare for future growth.
This Week on Nigerian Seminars and Trainings
This week, we introduced Executive Leadership Insights, a new series exploring how strategic decisions can drive stronger business performance. Our first batch of insights focused on Financial Management, Human Resources Management, and Logistics and Supply Chain Management, all highlighting how leaders can manage resources, empower people, and improve operational efficiency.
We also explored the importance of applying knowledge to better decisions and developing the skills needed to lead effectively. As we continue From Harvest to Growth, our focus remains on turning knowledge into action, strengthening leadership capabilities, and creating greater organisational impact.
Your current abilities are a foundation, not a limit.
Quote of the Week
“Becoming is better than being.”
- Carol S. Dweck
Professional development is a continuous process. Reaching a milestone does not mean there is nothing more to learn, and being good at your work does not mean you cannot become more effective. A willingness to improve helps professionals remain open to feedback, new ideas, unfamiliar responsibilities, and different ways of working. Sometimes, progress means developing an entirely new capability. At other times, it means refining an existing skill or approaching a familiar task with greater insight. As you consider your goals for the remainder of the year, remember that your current level of ability is not the limit of your potential.
Focus not only on what you have achieved, but also on what you are becoming capable of achieving.

Training Providers can now add YouTube videos to their event listings on Nigerian Seminars and Trainings using virtually all standard YouTube link and ID formats. Used effectively, video can demonstrate programme value, provide additional context and make an event listing more engaging for prospective participants. We encourage providers to use relevant videos that genuinely complement their programmes. Show prospective participants not only what you teach, but why the learning experience is worth their time
Test Your Management Thinking
Professional growth also involves improving how you assess workplace situations and make decisions. Nigeria's Learning & Development Ecosystem Round-Up: Moving Beyond Traditional Training
Professional development does not happen only in classrooms or formal training programmes. As workplace responsibilities evolve, organisations and professionals also need to recognise the learning opportunities found in everyday work. New assignments, cross-functional projects, mentoring, collaboration, and exposure to unfamiliar challenges can help employees develop problem-solving, communication, decision-making, and leadership skills. These experiences can complement formal training by allowing people to practise their knowledge in real situations.
For organisations, this means creating opportunities for employees to learn through experience, take on appropriate challenges, and receive feedback that supports improvement. For professionals, it means remaining open to unfamiliar tasks and recognising that new experiences can reveal capabilities they have yet to develop.
Learning and Development is most effective when formal training and practical workplace experiences work together to prepare people for changing responsibilities and future demands. Professional growth requires not only learning new things, but also being willing to experience, practise, and apply them.
Our Take: Don't Let Routine Limit Your Growth
Familiar routines can make work easier, but they can also limit opportunities to develop new capabilities. Sometimes, progress begins with accepting a challenging assignment, learning a different approach, asking for feedback, or taking responsibility for something outside your usual duties. You do not have to make a dramatic change to grow. Start by identifying one area where you can challenge yourself, strengthen a skill, or approach a familiar task differently. Use your experience as a foundation, recognise where you need to improve, and take deliberate steps towards becoming more capable.
Your comfort zone may reflect what you can do today. Your willingness to learn can help determine what you can do tomorrow.
Conclusion: Your Next Stage Requires Your Next Step
Our October journey, From Harvest to Growth, continues to remind us that professional development is an ongoing process. The experience we have gathered provides valuable lessons. The skills we have developed offer a foundation. The challenges we have overcome can strengthen our judgement. But the next stage of growth may require something different from us. It may require greater confidence, new knowledge, stronger capabilities, or the willingness to accept a worthwhile challenge.
As you move through the final quarter of 2026, consider where you want to make progress and what you need to do to prepare for it. Identify one development priority. Find an appropriate learning opportunity. Look for ways to practise and apply what you learn. Then take the next step.
Recognise your potential. Prepare for new opportunities. Develop the capabilities that will move you forward.
That is how we continue moving From Harvest to Growth!
Until next week, keep learning, keep developing, and keep moving beyond what is familiar.
