Welcome to Another Edition of the NST Weekly L&D Digest!
Theme: From Harvest to Growth
October arrives at an important point in the professional year.
The first three quarters have given us something of a harvest: achievements to celebrate, challenges to learn from, decisions that worked, others we might make differently, skills strengthened through experience, and perhaps a few ambitions still waiting to be fulfilled.
Last month, under our theme Calling the Mare, we explored the importance of recognising the moment, responding to opportunity and being prepared to act when responsibility calls. But answering the call is not the end of the journey. What happens after the moment has passed? What do we do with the experience, insight and results it leaves behind?
That is where October begins.
Our theme for the month, From Harvest to Growth, invites us to look at what the year has produced; not simply as an outcome, but as raw material for what comes next. Because a harvest is more than a reward for past effort. Within every harvest are the seeds of another season. The same is true of professional development.
Every achievement can reveal a capability worth strengthening. Every setback can expose a lesson worth learning. Every new responsibility can show us what we need to know next. And every experience, properly examined, can become preparation for a greater opportunity. This is particularly relevant as organisations and professionals enter the final quarter of 2026, a natural period for reviewing performance, identifying skills gaps, reassessing development priorities and preparing for the year ahead.
It is also fitting that October places a special focus on Learning and Development. So, this month, our attention turns deliberately to continuous learning, stronger capabilities, better workplace performance and the practical application of knowledge.
The harvest tells us how far we have come. Learning helps determine how much further we can go.
Welcome to October.
Welcome to From Harvest to Growth.
And welcome to another month of learning, reflection and professional development with Nigerian Seminars and Trainings.
This Week on Nigerian Seminars and Trainings
Our conversations this week have provided an appropriate bridge into the new month: raise your standards, strengthen your foundation, choose what deserves your energy, reflect on your contribution, and keep learning.
We began with “Raise Your Standards,” challenging professionals to improve how they work, communicate, lead and contribute. “Strengthen Your Foundation” followed with a reminder that sustainable growth rests on sound knowledge, strong skills, good habits and continuous learning. With “Choose What Deserves Your Energy,” attention shifted to prioritisation, the deliberate investment of time and effort in what can produce meaningful results.
We also marked Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day, reflecting on progress, responsibility and the contribution each of us can make toward a better future, before welcoming October with a renewed focus on Learning and Development.
Taken together, this week leaves us with a useful question for the final quarter:
If you want better results from the months ahead, what must you learn, strengthen or do differently today?
Quote of the Week
“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.”
- Vincent van Gogh
Professional growth rarely arrives as one dramatic breakthrough. More often, it is built through seemingly small decisions repeated consistently: learning something new, improving a process, asking a better question, accepting greater responsibility, seeking feedback, correcting a weakness or applying existing knowledge more effectively.
Individually, those actions may appear modest. Collectively, they can transform capability and performance. As the final quarter begins, do not underestimate the value of the next deliberate step. You do not have to accomplish everything at once. You simply have to keep moving in the right direction.

Opportunity can arrive unexpectedly. The important question is whether your capabilities are ready when it does. As we enter the final quarter, it is easy to concentrate on unfinished goals and opportunities still ahead. But there is another question worth asking:
How prepared are you to make the most of them?
The skills you have developed, lessons you have learned and experience you have accumulated throughout the year form part of your professional harvest. Their real value, however, emerges when you can apply them effectively to the challenges and opportunities before you.
Our featured article, “When Your Skills Meet the Moment,” explores the importance of recognising your existing capabilities while continuing to develop the knowledge and skills required for what comes next.
Professional growth is not simply about waiting for the right opportunity. It is about becoming increasingly ready for it.

Turn Your Development Priorities into Action. Once you know what needs to improve, the next step is to act on it. The final quarter provides an important window to identify capability gaps, strengthen priority skills and prepare for the demands of 2027.
Our Fourth Quarter 2026 Conferences and Training Guide brings together professional development opportunities available during the remaining months of the year, helping individuals and organisations move from identifying development needs to taking practical action. Review your priorities. Identify the capabilities that matter most. Find programmes that can help close the gap.
Download the Fourth Quarter 2026 Training Guide. Do not wait for the next opportunity to start preparing for it.

Promote Your Events with Videos
A course description tells prospective participants what a programme offers. The right video can help them understand the experience behind it. Training Providers can now add YouTube videos to their event listings on Nigerian Seminars and Trainings using virtually all standard YouTube link and ID formats. Used effectively, video can demonstrate programme value, provide additional context and make an event listing more engaging for prospective participants. We encourage providers to use relevant videos that genuinely complement their programmes. Show prospective participants not only what you teach, but why the learning experience is worth their time.
Think You Know Management? Put Your Thinking to the Test.
Management is rarely a matter of choosing between an obviously right answer and an obviously wrong one. Real workplace situations demand judgement: understanding context, weighing competing considerations, anticipating consequences and deciding what to do next.
That is the thinking behind our new Management Challenge.
Read the challenge. Consider the situation. Make your call. Then see how your thinking measures up. Each challenge is another opportunity to sharpen your management instincts, reflect on practical workplace decisions and identify areas where further learning could strengthen your capability.
Think. Decide. Learn.

Nigeria’s L&D Ecosystem Round-Up - Making Learning Count Beyond the Classroom
If October is about moving From Harvest to Growth, then one question deserves particular attention:
What happens after the training ends?
Attending a programme is important, but attendance itself is not the ultimate measure of development. The real value of learning emerges when knowledge is applied, skills are practised, behaviours improve and workplace performance changes.
For professionals, this means approaching development with purpose. What capability are you trying to strengthen? Where will you apply what you learn? What observable improvement would demonstrate that the learning has made a difference?
For organisations, it means creating an environment in which employees have opportunities to practise new skills, receive feedback, share knowledge and translate learning into real work.
As development priorities are reviewed for the final quarter and the year ahead, the conversation should therefore extend beyond how many programmes were attended to what changed because people attended them.
- Knowledge acquired is valuable.
- Knowledge applied creates impact.
Learning creates possibilities. Application turns those possibilities into value.
Our Take: The Year Is Not Over
October can create an uncomfortable temptation: to measure the year only by what has not yet happened. The target not reached. The skill not acquired. The project delayed. The opportunity missed. The plan that never quite got started. But the calendar still has something to give. You can still develop the skill you have been postponing. You can still improve how you work, communicate and contribute. You can still take greater ownership of your responsibilities. You can still prepare for an opportunity that has not yet arrived. And perhaps most importantly, you can still learn from what the year has already taught you.
That is the deeper meaning of moving From Harvest to Growth.
Your harvest does not consist only of successes. It includes experience. Lessons. Feedback. Mistakes. Changed assumptions. New relationships. Greater self-awareness. And clearer knowledge of what deserves your attention next. Do not carry every unfinished ambition indiscriminately into the final quarter. Review them. Prioritise them. Decide what remains meaningful and achievable and concentrate your effort there.
Sometimes finishing strongly requires doing more. Sometimes it requires doing fewer things, but doing them with greater focus, consistency and purpose.
The year is not over. Neither is your opportunity to make it count.
Conclusion: What Will You Plant from This Harvest?
Last month, Calling the Mare asked us to recognise the moment and respond when opportunity, responsibility or challenge called. October takes us one step further. Having answered the call, what have we learned?
- What has the journey produced in us?
- And what will we do with it?
As you enter the final quarter, take stock of your professional harvest. Celebrate what deserves celebrating. Learn from what did not work. Identify the capabilities your next level will require. Then turn those lessons into deliberate action.
Because the most valuable harvest is not simply what you gather. It is what you are able to grow from it. So, as October unfolds, keep learning. Keep applying. Keep improving.
Until next week, keep harvesting the lessons, planting the knowledge, growing the capability!
