This course helps delegates acquire a professional approach to giving evidence in a trial, especially for the more vulnerable. Delegates will look at the legislation that has been designed to help the vulnerable when they are called upon as witnesses. This will give delegates the tools to approach any court proceedings or interview any witness in a beneficial manner.

Course Outcomes

Delegates will gain knowledge and skills to:

  • Use a courtroom setup to put vulnerable and intimidated witnesses (VIWS) at ease to explore evidence

  • Understand special measures that can be implemented with follow up action as witness support

  • Identify VIWS using the legal process

  • Explain how the criminal justice system is set up to support VIWS

  • Possess a working knowledge of the list of legal definitions of vulnerability or intimated witnesses

  • Identify special measures that can be made available to vulnerable or intimated witnesses

  • Recognise quality of service, equality of opportunity and community, cultural and race relations issues with regard to the vulnerable and intimidated witnesses

  • Recognise emotions and address vulnerability and key protection issues
