Though the act of fraud has been around for years, the schemes are getting more sophisticated as technology advances. Smaller companies are more susceptible to fraud due to the fewer controls that are available including small size of staff and limited budgets. Inexpensive ways to combat fraud in smaller companies can be achieved by implementing formal codes of conduct and anti-fraud policies outlining explicit statements against fraud and unethical behavior.
