Venue: 5th Floor Medife House , 58/60 Broad Street, Lagos Island
Retirement Planning as an exercise the world over is fraught with many challenges. For Nigerian workers who are especially challenged by low levels of income and savings as well as huge family and social responsibilities; planning a retirement can be complicated. Some of the social issues that affect effective retirement plans in Nigeria include: the size of our families, polygamy, the additional responsibilities of an extended family, and inadequate access to medical facilities.
In addition, Nigeria does not have an operable social security system that takes care of the aged, the young unemployed, and most disturbingly, the disabled, meaning that all these categories of people constitute an additional responsibility on the worker and the worker’s resources.
While the average life expectancy of Nigerians hover somewhere in the early 50s, some
Nigerians live up to their 80s and 90s. With many more people living up to those ages, and the growing sophistication amongst our young adults, provisions have to be made in our social system for caring for the aged. Where such systems are not in place, workers have to plan ahead for their old age.
This workshop approaches the subject of retirement in a practical way, looking at the realities of retirement and helping delegates to develop their own job description. It will help make the transition from work to retirement enjoyable and rewarding. Delegates will develop an action plan to take away and implement to help them take a positive approach to the next phase of their lives. Participants will increase their awareness of the overall risk in the markets as well as possible asset allocation models to help manage exposure to risk.
This is not a financial course; but you will leave with the knowledge and confidence to make financial decisions suited to your level of risk and in line with the goals and objectives you establish.
