The increasing demand and applications of non-linear load in industries nowadays greatly affects the quality of the power system. Unfortunately, most of the older electrical designs of industries have no anticipation for these kinds of loads. Nuisance tripping and unplanned downtimes in industrial and commercial establishments greatly affect production and contribute a great economical loss.

The stability of power system and mitigations of power quality problems now lies on the hands of Engineering Team and Maintenance personnel. This technical training will guide maintenance engineers and improve their technical know-how on how to deal with the power quality issues.

This course provides theoretical and practical knowledge of the issues related to power quality and harmonics. The objective of the course is to familiarize attendees with the terminology and concepts to evaluate the quality of power in an electric power system and allow them to identify the source of the problem. The effects of harmonics on various power system components and methods of reducing excessive harmonics will also be addressed. IEEE and IEC recommendations, along with National Electric Code requirements will also be discussed in some detail.

Salvo Global’s course will help attendees identify power quality and harmonic problems, and to will provide them with tools and methods to avoid such problems either during design or during the normal and emergency operation of the electric power system.

Top learning objectives:

  • Enhance knowledge of power quality electrical maintenance techniques to effectively optimize performance and extend lifecycle of equipment and electrical systems.
  • Learn how to plan and implement energized maintenance tasks for the analysis of the different types of power quality problems – basically effective condition monitoring leading to early fault detection.
  • Ensure high safety awareness in all maintenance practices and develop a strong safety culture with reliable emergency protocol.
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and protect ALL essential equipment and electrical systems such as generators, motors, control circuits, transformer, PLCs etc.
  • Improve important management skills to motivate artisans and technicians to carry out work orders precisely and productively.
  • Acquire practical insights and application techniques to safely handle all types of electrical systems and components.
  • Gain valuable advice through interactive discussion on renewable/alternative energy power quality issues.
  • Understand the sources of transient over voltages and be able to specify arresters.
  • Know why harmonics are produced and be able to measure them and implement mitigation methods.
  • Analyze the components of AC power and understand the relationships of Volt, current, frequency regulation.

Outcome of the Masterclass:

This unique workshop provides you with information necessary to analyze, monitor and troubleshoot power quality and EMI/RFI related problems commonly encountered in commercial and industrial environments. It has been structured to provide a complete tutorial on all aspects of these issues.

From this workshop participants will be equipped to:

  • Apply recommended practices for power quality.
  • Prepare for and then eliminate the inevitable harmonic interaction.
  • Design a good quality earthing system with complete integrity.
  • Provide for surge and transient protection.
  • Select appropriate equipment to perform a power quality analysis.
  • Plan for electrical system compatibility
