The Centre’s mandates include the stimulation, promotion and coordination of management training, consultancy, research, and education. It would be helpful if the CMD can move beyond accreditation to standardizing and enforcing the quality of management training in Nigeria. Most successful training firms in Nigeria have risen to the heights they have attained by setting and maintaining their own standards.;

Second, is the status of training firms accredited by Centre for Management Development (CMD) who still struggle for recognition by government agencies despite the huge investment of time and money in securing accreditation from Centre for Management Development (CMD). For instance, it is doubtful if the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) fully recognizes Centre for Management Development (CMD) accredited training firms in Nigeria. TETfund is a government agency funded by the two percent education tax paid from the assessable profit of companies registered in Nigeria to provide supplementary support to all level of public tertiary institutions with the main objective of using funding alongside project management for the rehabilitation, restoration, and consolidation of Tertiary Education in Nigeria. The Centre for Management Development (CMD) will do well to resolve this problem. Not only with TETfund, but with all other agencies and parastatals of government. 

Third, and lastly, unlike the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) that was setup by the Federal Government of Nigeria in the Military era as a management development institution with clear responsibly for training staff of the civil service, it would be helpful for the Centre for Management Development (CMD) to clearly define and maintain its role within the training industry. A situation where it plays the umpire, and a player does not augur well for the development of management training in Nigeria.
